Taiwo Awoniyi joins Nottingham Forest for a record-breaking fee

Premier League new boys Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of 24-year old Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi.
The Nigerian joins the West Bridgeford based side following an impressive 2021-2022 season with FC Union Berlin in which he scored 20 goals and provided 5 assists in 43 games (all comps.).
In a statement on the club’s official website, Nottingham Forest confirmed that they broke their club transfer record to bring the Nigeria international to the City Ground.
A fee in the region of 20 million euros has been mooted as the figure in Awo’s release clause which was activated by Nottingham Forest.
The Ilorin-born forward now has a five-year deal that will keep him at Nottingham Forest until the end of the 2026-2027 season.
After getting a second chance to play in the Premier League, the former Liverpool man had this to say:
"I'm very excited to be here at Nottingham Forest.
"It's always been my dream to play in the Premier League and having spoken to Steve Cooper about our ambitions and looking at Forest, with its great history, it's a club that I want to be part of."
Awoniyi initially signed for Union Berlin on loan in 2020 before joining on a permanent basis the following season, and departs the Bundesliga club after scoring 25 goals in 65 appearances.
The 24-year-old went on several loan spells to clubs like FSV Frankfurt, NEC, Mouscron, Gent and Mainz 05 as a Liverpool player.
