Rangers confirm signing of Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers

  • Glasgow Rangers have secured the signing of Cyriel Dessers from US Cremonese on a four-year contract, the club announced today. The transfer, for an undisclosed fee, is still subject to international clearance.

The 28-year-old Super Eagles striker is set to join the team for the upcoming 2023/24 season, marking Michael Beale's sixth signing of the summer transfer window.

Dessers heads to Ibrox with a wealth of experience, having played in top leagues throughout Europe.
During the just-concluded season, he plied his trade in Serie A for Cremonese.

Before that, he spent time in the Belgian Pro-League with OH Leuven, Lokeren, and Genk, while also gracing the Dutch football stage with Utrecht, Heracles Almelo, and Feyenoord.

During his spell at Feyenoord in the 2021/22 season, Dessers achieved recognition as the leading goalscorer in the UEFA Europa Conference League, netting an impressive ten goals. This accomplishment earned him a spot in the competition's team of the season.

The Nigerian international has represented his country four times as part of the Super Eagles.

Expressing his joy upon signing for Rangers, Dessers stated, "I am really happy; it is a big relief to finally be here... I look at what is here at this moment... and I thought that could be a really good fit for me and for the team, so I am happy to be here."

Manager Michael Beale expressed his delight at the acquisition, highlighting Dessers' extensive experience in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Italy, as well as in European competitions.

Beale emphasised that Dessers possesses the specific qualities they were seeking and praised the striker's alignment with the team's style of play.

Rangers finished second in the Scottish Premiership last term and will play in the UEFA Champions League next season.
