Peseiro visits South Africa to evaluate Chippa United goalkeeper for the Super Eagles

  • Super Eagles manager, Jose Peseiro has landed in South Africa to assess Chippa United FC'c shot-stopper, Stanley Nwabali, amid growing concerns over the national team's goalkeeping situation.

The former Real Madrid assistant coach has been spotted in Port Elizabeth and has engaged in discussions with former home-based Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, during Chippa United's training session at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

The Portuguese tactician, fine-tuning preparations for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, is considering handing Nwabali the Super Eagles' number-one jersey as Francis Uzoho continues to perform below expectations.

Peseiro was given the floor to address all the Chippa United players during the session, where he revealed he had keenly watched the team and was pleased with their style of play.

However, it is clear that Peseiro's visit to the club's facilities comes against the backdrop of a pressing goalkeeping crisis for the Super Eagles.

The spotlight on Nwabali intensifies as Peseiro plans to closely scrutinize his performance this Saturday evening when Chippa United face Golden Arrows in a DSTV Premiership clash.

The 27-year old goalkeeper has demonstrated commendable form this season, boasting six clean sheets from twelve appearances in the South African top-flight.

Should Nwabal impress, he could earn a spot in the national team as Peseiro seeks to finalize the Super Eagles ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Ivory Coast from January 13 until February 11, 2024
