Victor Osimhen wins prestigious GlobalSoccer award

  • The Nigeria international has also been nominated for the Serie A Player of the Month for November.

Victor Osimhen has been named the best young player of the year 2022, with the young Super Eagles striker winning the prestigious 2022 Globe Soccer Awards for his outstanding performances.

Osimhen was announced the winner of the award during a glamorous ceremony that took place at the Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai on Thursday, three days before the start of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Napoli forward becomes the first player to receive the prestigious honour as the ‘Emerging Player Of The Year’ category was only created this year.

Osimhen made the three final shortlist alongside Barcelona wonderkid Gavi and Real Madrid ace Federico Valverde before edging the two renowned talents.

The Super Eagles striker has been exceptional this season, helping Napoli soar high in the Italian Serie A and the UEFA Champions League.

With ten goals in 14 appearances across both competitions, Osimhen is Napoli's highest-scoring star despite missing nearly a month of action due to injury.

The 23-year-old is the top scorer in Serie A as Napoli sit at the top of the league table while the Neapolitans are also through to the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Presently in the form of his life, Osimhen recently saw his market value rise to a career-high €70 million - the most of any Nigerian in history.

The former Lille star is in the running for November's Italian Serie A Player of the Month, having also been nominated for the award in October.
