Injury: Tolu Arokodare to miss seven weeks of action following knee surgery

  • Tolu Arokodare will be out of action for several weeks after the Genk striker underwent surgery following a knee injury suffered at the weekend.

Making his fourth appearance for KRC Genk on Saturday in their Belgian Pro League clash at home against KV Oostende, Arokodare lasted only 12 minutes before he was replaced after going down in pain.

Tests on Monday revealed that Arokodare suffered a tear in the meniscus of his left knee, and he has since undergone successful surgery.

Arokodare's injury is terrible news for Genk as they only signed the 22-year-old from Amiens SC during the January transfer window to replace compatriot, Paul Onuachu. Onuachu left the Cegeka Arena to join Southampton in a dream Premier League move.

Speaking with EaglesTracker, Arokodare confirmed an estimated return timeline of seven weeks, and the youngster remains upbeat despite the injury setback.

Arokodare enjoyed an excellent start to life in Belgium, scoring on his debut to help Genk earn a thrilling 3-2 victory over rivals KAA Gent. He also bagged an assist in the Smurfs' [2-2] draw against KV Mechelen in mid-February.

In his enforced absence, Genk will hope the club's other strikers, including Nigerian youngster, Yira Sor, can step up and take up the goalscoring mantle.

Genk are chasing a first league title since 2019, and they currently boast a ten-point advantage over second-place Union Saint-Gilloise at the top of the league standings. They will take on Sint-Truidense VV away from home on Sunday.
