The Nigerian women's national team was on the verge of earning a remarkable victory over its illustrious opponents on Monday night.

Nigeria came back from a 2-0 loss three days earlier to play a dramatic 2-2 draw with the Canadian women's national team at the Starlight Stadium in Langford, BC

Ifeoma Onumonu and Rasheedat Ajibade were on target for the African champions, who were able to salvage some pride in their draw over the reigning Olympic winners.

After a lackluster performance in the first leg of their two-legged friendly match against Canada, the Super Falcons were eager to improve their performance against the world's sixth-ranked team.

After five minutes, they rightfully took the lead when Ifeoma Onumonu's exquisite back-heel kick went past Kailen Sheridan in the Canadian goal.

Nigeria went into the break with a lead thanks to Chiamaka Nnadozie's outstanding goalkeeping and some solid defensive play.

Following an error from Onome Ebi, Canada was able to pin the Africans back quickly after the restart through Christine Sinclair.

In the 53rd minute, though, Rasheedat Ajibade's cross bounced beyond substitute Canadian goalkeeper Sabrina D'Angelo, who stood powerless as the ball soared behind her.

The Super Falcons hung on for the majority of the second half, but a late equalizer by Shelina Zardowsky denied them a memorable second-ever victory over the CONCACAF giants.

With their tour of Canada completed, the Randy Waldrum-coached ladies will focus on defending their title at the African Women's Nations Cup in Morocco.
