  • Fulham Football Club have completed the signing of Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey from Ajax.
  • The 23-year-old footballer has committed to a four-year deal with the club.
  • The exact transfer fee remains undisclosed, while the agreement is pending international clearance, expected to be finalised next week.

Bassey's acquisition marks Fulham's second signing of the summer, following the addition of Raul Jimenez.

The talented defender, born in Italy but raised in London since childhood and has played for the Super Eagles, expressed his excitement about joining the prestigious club, stating, "I know how big of a club Fulham is. They always have quality players, they're playing in the Premier League, the best league in the world, so I didn't have to think much about it."

The allure of playing for a London-based club, which he considers a plus, adds to Bassey's joy.

With the deal now complete, he is eager to focus solely on football and contribute to the team's progress from their remarkable performance last season.

Calvin Bassey began his football journey at Leicester City's Academy and later moved to Rangers in 2020.

During his first season with Rangers, he played a pivotal role in their success, aiding the team in clinching the Scottish Premiership and setting a record of 26 clean sheets.

In his second season with the Scottish club, Bassey transitioned from left-back to centre-back and played a vital role in their memorable run to the final of the UEFA Europa League.

Following his impressive stint at Rangers, Bassey moved to Ajax in the summer of 2022. Throughout his time with the Dutch club, he showcased his talent by making 39 appearances across various competitions, including the UEFA Champions League. Additionally, he has earned ten caps for the Nigerian national team.

With Bassey's arrival, Fulham aims to strengthen their defensive lineup ahead of the new Premier League campaign, which is set to kick off on August 12.

Fulham's first match will see them face Everton as they begin their quest in the highly competitive English top flight.
