October Player of the Month: Victor Osimhen

October Player of the Month: Victor Osimhen

  • Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen is EaglesTracker's Nigerian Player of the Month for October.

The 23-year-old claims the honour, having been selected following a string of exceptional displays during the month under review.

It was always going to take something extraordinary and someone truly special to be named October's best player, with several Nigerian stars dominating the headlines in Europe.

Ademola Lookman banged goals for fun in Italy, and the former Leicester City winger is already becoming a fan favourite at Atalanta. Paul Onuachu took goalscoring to new personal heights while guiding KRC Genk to a club-record winning run.

In France, Terem Moffi's excellent form in front of goal helped the Lorient man rub shoulders with Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Neymar Junior - some of the best players in the world. And there is Raphael Onyedika, whose colossal displays powered Club Brugge to the knockout round of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in history.

Still, Osimhen found a way to stay ahead of this incredible chasing pack.

The Super Eagles striker returned at the start of October from an injury he sustained in September, with many questioning the merit of handing him a starting spot at Napoli - a team that had not stopped scoring or winning in his absence.

Osimhen turned on the burners in his first match, coming off the bench to score and inspire Napoli to a 4-2 win over Ajax Amsterdam, sealing qualification for the Champions League knockout phase with a game to spare.

Again, Osimhen started on the bench in his first Serie A game after his recovery. Still, the Nigerian forward found the back of the net after entering the fray in the second half to lift Napoli to a 3-2 triumph over Bologna.

The following weekend, Osimhen won the fierce battle against one of the Italian league's best defenders, Chris Smalling, to strike the only goal in Napoli's crucial win at Jose Mourinho's AS Roma.

Praised to the high heavens for tormenting the former Manchester United man, Osimhen then took it a notch higher by being a nightmare to the entire Sassuolo defence line.

The 23-year-old forward bagged three goals - his first club-career hat-trick - in the 4-0 demolition of the visitors to the Diego Maradona Stadium on October 29.

It was a fitting way to end a perfect month where he had scored in every match he played.

And the EaglesTracker Player of the Month is a befitting crown for Nigeria's brightest shining star and the country's new all-time top goalscorer in Serie A.

What do you think ? Who was your Player of the Month for October ?
