Nigerian Team of the Week (Feb 25-28, 2022)

The last game week in the month of February has come to an end, here’s the EaglesTracker Nigerian Team of the Week for this past weekend of action.

Goalkeeper – Maduka Okoye (Sparta Rotterdam FC)

Maduka Okoye's heroics could not save his side, Sparta Rotterdam from a 2-1 defeat to Dutch giants PSV in the Dutch Eredivisie on Sunday. Maduka made seven saves and had a pass success rate of 60%.

Left Centre Back – Calvin Bassey (Rangers FC)

Despite a disappointing 2-2 draw, Calvin had a decent performance as he helped the Gers secure a point at the Ibrox. He also did great in stoppage time by stopping a dangerous Motherwell counter-attack.

Centre Back – Valentine Ozornwafor (Royal Charleroi Sporting Club)

In the heart of defence, Valentine was imperious as his side, Royal Sporting Charleroi ran out 3-0 winners over KV Beerschot in the Belgian Pro League. Whenever the Nigerian plays, he brings stability to the Charleroi defence.

Right Centre Back – Ayo Obileye (Livingston FC)

Ayo Obileye equally had a good shift in the Scottish Professional Football League as his side, Livingston FC picked up maximum points away at Dundee FC.

Obileye was on for the entire duration of the game, made five clearances and blocked a shot

Right Midfield – Anthony Nwakaeme (Trabzonspor FC)

The Nigerian international was a thorn in the flesh of Kayserispor as he led league-leading Trabzonspor team to stage a 3-2 comeback victory.

Anthony Nwakaeme assisted Djaniny to level the scores before scoring a stoppage time winner via the penalty spot.

The Nigerian delivered his 9th assist and 9th goal of the Turkish Super Lig this season.

Centre Midfield – Alhassan Yusuf (Royal Antwerp FC)

The 21-year-old Nigeria international was the shining light in a Royal Antwerp team that crumbled 4-1 to Club Brugge last weekend. He was on for the entirety of the game, having a pass rate of 92%, 1 key pass, 3 accurate long balls, won 7 out of 9 duels and made 4 tackles.

Centre Midfield – Abdul Ajagun (Al Hilal Omduran FC)

The former Nigerian youth International played 90 minutes and ran the show for his side in the 2-1 loss to Al-Merrikh. Despite him ending up on the losing side, the Nigerian was superb as he got a 7.7 match rating.

Left Midfield – Noah Bazee (Augsburg FC)

Former Super Eagles invitee, Noel Sarenren Bazee was the hero for Augsburg as he scored a 75th-minute equaliser to rescue a 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund.

It was the first goal the Nigeria international has netted in 13 appearances, all as a substitute.

Left Forward – Sadiq Umar (UD Almeria)

Super Eagles new boy Sadiq Umar, was in a sensational mood when Almeria took on Fuenlabrada in the La Liga Smartbank.

He scored one goal and assisted another to lead Almeria to a 3-1 victory over Fuenlabrada, moving them to the top of the Segunda league in their pursuit of promotion to La Liga.

Right Forward – Tolu Arokodare (Amiens SC)

Former Golden Eaglets invitee, Tolu Arokodare, bagged two goals this past weekend for his French employers. Amiens defeated Nimes 3-0 in the French Ligue 2 on Saturday evening.

The lanky striker scored his goals in the 68th and 84th minutes respectively. His brace takes his league tally to seven in a total of 22 matches.

Centre Forward – Paul Onuachu (KRC Genk)

Super Eagles forward, Paul Onuachu scored the first goal and assisted the second as Genk defeated Kortrijk 2-0.

The lanky forward maintained his excellent form as he assisted his team in their recovery from last week’s setback.
