SUPER FALCONS KNOCKED OUT OF TOKYO 2020 OLYMPICS QUALIFYING
Raba
The Super Falcons of Nigeria have been knocked out of Tokyo 2020 Olympics qualifying on away goals, following their draw vs Les Elephants of Ivory Coast in Agege, Lagos.
The new-look Super Falcons were shocked by a resilient Ivorian team.
Debutant, Gift Monday nearly gave the Super Falcons the lead in the 7th minute, but her effort from the edge of the box was saved by the Ivorian goalkeeper.
The Ivorians took a shock lead in the 12th minute as Kapho Nina struck a fine free kick that beat Chiamaka Nnadozie in goal.
Asisat Oshoala came close to scoring in the 28th minute, and her persistence was re-payed in the 34th minute as she raced into the Ivorian penalty area and fired past the goalkeeper to draw the Super Falcons level.
The teams went into the break level at one goal apiece.
The second half of the game was largely dominated by the Super Falcons, with Ajibade, Oshoala, and Otu all coming close to scoring, but the Ivorians were resilient and held strong in defence to deny the Super Falcons.
Nnadozie was called upon twice in the second half.
A dissappointing result for the Super Falcons.
