Olympics qualifier: Nigeria set up potential South Africa clash with Cameroon win

  • Nigeria's Super Falcons have advanced to the final qualifying round of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
  • Nigeria defeated Cameroon [1-0] at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Monday to seal their passage.

The Falcons were held to a goalless draw in Douala on Friday in the first leg of the clash but saw off the challenge of the Indomitable Lions in the return fixture.

Esther Okoronkwo netted the winning goal for the former African champions in the 15th minute after pouncing on Jennifer Echegini's pass.

Nigeria will face reigning continental champions South Africa in the final round of the qualifiers for a ticket to participate in Paris 2024.

South Africa made light work of Tanzania to reach the final stage.

The Bayana Bayana strolled to a 3-0 away victory in the first leg and could seal the aggregate advantage with another win in the second leg on Tuesday.

Nigeria have not qualified for the Olympic Games since the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

The Super Falcons' 16-year wait to participate in the biggest sporting event on the planet could end with an aggregate victory over South Africa in the final qualifying round.
