Rookie of the Month: Victor Boniface wins first award in Germany

  • Victor Boniface has won his first award in Germany following his move to Bayer Leverkusen from Belgium's Union Saint-Gilloise.
  • Boniface has been named the winner of the Bundesliga Rookie award for the month of August.

The 22-year-old Nigerian forward outshone the competition to secure this prestigious accolade.

The runners-up in this contest were Leipzig's Xavi Simon and Freiburg's Noah Atubolu, both excellent talents in their own right.

Since his summer arrival at Bayer Leverkusen from the Belgian Pro League's Union St.Gilloise, Boniface has been nothing short of exceptional.

In August, he found the net twice and played the role of provider with one crucial assist in just two appearances for Bayer Leverkusen.

Boniface's remarkable journey began with a significant contribution on his Bundesliga debut, where he set up a goal to help Leverkusen secure a thrilling 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig on August 19.

The former Union SG ace did not stop there, as on August 26, he unleashed his top quality, netting twice as Bayer Leverkusen convincingly handed Borussia Monchengladbach a 3-0 defeat.

Such stellar performances have not only earned him recognition in the Bundesliga but have also caught the attention of Nigeria's national team selectors.

Boniface received his maiden call-up to the Super Eagles for their 2023 AFCON qualifier clash against Sao Tome and Principe.
