Taiwo Awoniyi is the Nigerian Player of the Month for May

  • Taiwo Awoniyi has been bestowed with the highly coveted EaglesTracker Nigerian Player of the Month accolade for May.

Awoniyi's outstanding performance on one of football's most illustrious stages, the English Premier League, catapulted him to the forefront of the competition.

Although several players vied for the prestigious honour, including Victor Osimhen, Igoh Ogbu, Peter Olayinka, Victor Olatunji, and Franklin Sasere, Awoniyi's contributions outshone them all.

The former Union Berlin man demonstrated remarkable resilience during a critical period for his club, Nottingham Forest, as they fought to avoid relegation.

Awoniyi's impactful return from injury coincided with a crucial juncture in Nottingham Forest's campaign.

Commencing the month of May with a scintillating brace in the thrilling 4-3 victory over Southampton, the 25-year-old forward continued to shine. He followed up with another sensational double in the vital 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

On May 20, in a match of immense significance, Awoniyi secured a thrilling 1-0 triumph over Arsenal, single-handedly saving Nottingham Forest from relegation. This result also dashed Arsenal's title hopes, crowning Manchester City as the deserving champions.

Awoniyi concluded his extraordinary month by securing his sixth goal in four games during the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on the final day of the season.

With an impressive tally of ten Premier League goals, Awoniyi undoubtedly merits the distinction of being crowned the EaglesTracker Nigerian Player of the Month.

His exceptional contributions have not only brought resounding success to his club but have also elevated his stature among the finest Nigerian footballers plying their trade in top-tier leagues across the globe.
