Match Report: Maja bags brilliant brace, Arokodare nets first league goal of 2023, Iheanacho's Foxes crash

EaglesTracker presents the highlights of the involvement of Nigerian stars for their respective clubs in matches played on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

The French Ligue 2

Super Eagles striker, Josh Maja fired a fantastic first-half brace to guide Bordeaux to a 2-2 draw at Caen on Tuesday evening, at the Stade Michel d'Ornano.

Maja grabbed his ninth and tenth goal of the league season within the opening 25 minutes of the matchday 18 encounter as Bordeaux enjoyed a fine start away from home.

But Caen fought back brilliantly after the break, spurred on in part by a red card to a Bordeaux defender, to earn a share of the spoils.

Over at the Stade de la Licorne, Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare came off the bench to net a stoppage-time equaliser that helped Amiens secure a 1-1 draw at home to Guingamp.

It was Arokodare's first league goal for Amiens since September.

Nigerian teenager George Ilenikhena made his Ligue 2 debut for Amiens in the second half.

The Netherlands

Anglo-Nigerian forward, Noni Madueke found the back of the net to inspire PSV to a narrow 2-1 win at Sparta Rotterdam to advance to the next round of the KNVB Beker.

Madueke doubled PSV's advantage deep into first-half stoppage time after Xavi Simons had given Ruud van Nistelrooy's men the lead seven minutes earlier.

Verschueren halved the deficit for Sparta in the second half but PSV held on for the win.

The League Cup

Leicester City are out of the English League Cup after falling to a 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United.

Wilfred Ndidi featured from start to finish while Kelechi Iheanacho was a second-half substitute for the Foxes. But Newcastle showed their superiority in the second half through goals from Dan Burn and Joelinton to progress to the next round of the competition.
