- Al Wahda FC have secured the signing of Nigerian winger, Philip Otele from Romanian outfit CFR Cluj.
- The 25-year-old's transfer is part of Al Wahda's strategy to bolster their first-team squad.
Otele has signed a four-year deal that will keep him with Al Wahda until the summer of 2028 and reports indicate he will earn €1.5 million annually.
Al Wahda reportedly paid €3.5 million to secure Otele's services from CFR Cluj.
Expressing his excitement about the move, Otele stated, "I am extremely happy and excited for the upcoming challenges and competitions with Al Wahda. I am proud to wear this badge and grateful for the warm welcome and confidence from the club’s leadership and management."
Previously, English Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion were keen on signing Otele, but he opted to join Al Wahda instead of moving to England. Brighton had shown interest in the Nigerian during the tenure of former CFR Cluj coach Roberto De Zerbi, who left the club after the 2023-2024 season.
During his time with CFR Cluj, Otele had an impressive season, scoring 18 goals in 40 appearances across the regular season and playoffs, finishing as one of the league's top scorers.
CFR Cluj already prepared for Otele's departure by signing Adrian Păun. Otele's previous clubs include Kauno Žalgiris, Wolviston FC, and UTA Arad before his move to CFR Cluj in July 2023.
