CAF Awards 2024: Nigeria's Ademola Lookman, Stanley Nwabali Nominated for Top Honors

• Nigeria's Ademola Lookman is nominated for the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award alongside Simon Adingra, Serhou Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi, and Ronwen Williams.
• Stanley Nwabali is nominated for Goalkeeper of the Year award, while Nigeria's Super Eagles contend for Team of the Year at the CAF Awards 2024.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the top five nominees for the men's categories of the CAF Awards 2024, with Nigeria's Ademola Lookman and Stanley Nwabali making the cut.

Lookman, who had an impressive year with Atalanta, scoring 17 goals and providing 10 assists in 45 appearances, is nominated for the CAF Player of the Year award. He also scored six goals and provided four assists in 16 appearances for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

He faces stiff competition from Simon Adingra (Cote d'Ivoire/Brighton & Hove Albion), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea/Borussia Dortmund), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco/Paris Saint-Germain), and Ronwen Williams (South Africa/Mamelodi Sundowns).

Lookman's remarkable performance earned him Atalanta's Player of the Year award and a 14th-place finish in the Ballon d'Or rankings, surpassing notable Premier League players.

Stanley Nwabali, Nigeria's first-choice goalkeeper, is nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Year award alongside Andre Onana (Cameroon/Manchester United), Yahia Fofana (Cote d'Ivoire/Angers SCO), Mostafa Shobeir (Egypt/Al Ahly), and Ronwen Williams (South Africa/Mamelodi Sundowns).

Nwabali's heroics in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he kept four consecutive clean sheets, have catapulted him into the spotlight.

Nigeria's Super Eagles have also been nominated for Team of the Year, alongside Angola, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, DR Congo, Morocco, Mozambique, South Africa, Sudan, and Uganda.

The 2024 CAF Awards ceremony will take place in Marrakech, Morocco on December 16, 2024.
