- Nigeria international Victor Boniface has reaffirmed his commitment to Bayer Leverkusen after a proposed transfer to Al Nassr fell through.
- Boniface is focused on helping Leverkusen achieve their goals despite missing out on a potential €15 million annual salary with Al Nassr.
Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has pledged his allegiance to Bayer Leverkusen, dismissing speculation surrounding his failed winter transfer to Saudi Arabian giants Al Nassr.
The 23-year-old striker's anticipated move to Al Nassr collapsed when the club opted to sign Aston Villa's Jhon Durán in a staggering €77m deal.
Despite the failed transfer, Boniface remains committed to Leverkusen, emphasizing his focus on helping the team achieve their goals. In an exclusive interview with SportsBoom,
Boniface expressed his dedication to the German club, stating, “Transfer rumours are normal in football. It’s always flattering when big clubs show interest, but my focus right now is 100% on Bayer Leverkusen,” he said.
“A lot of calculations have also happened here and there, but I love playing here, and I want to give my best to the team. What happens in the future will happen, but for now, my mind is only on helping Leverkusen achieve our goals.”
Boniface's loyalty to Leverkusen highlights his character, particularly given the lucrative financial package he would have received had he joined Al Nassr.
The Nigerian striker's annual salary would have skyrocketed from €2 million to €15 million, making him one of the highest-paid players in the Saudi Pro League.
Having signed a contract extension with Leverkusen until 2029, Boniface is now focused on reclaiming his place as the team's first-choice striker under Xabi Alonso.
The Nigerian international has endured an injury-plagued campaign, making just 15 appearances and scoring eight goals before a thigh problem sidelined him in November 2024.
