Super Eagles youngster, Calvin Bassey, has signed a five-year contract to join Eredivisie Champions Ajax from Scottish Premiership team Rangers FC.
Ajax and Brighton Hove Albion were vying to recruit Bassey, but the four-time European champions prevailed after making Rangers a stronger offer.
The deal the Nigerian signed is valid from 2022 through June 30th, 2027.
Ajax and Rangers FC agreed a transfer fee of €23 million. If factors are taken into account, that sum might reach €26.5 million.
Following Lisandro Martinez's transfer to Manchester United, head coach Alfred Schreuder believes Bassey is the ideal replacement and suits Ajax's style.
Bassey's transfer from Rangers to Ajax cost €23 million, with the possibility of an additional €3 million in add-ons, making it the most expensive in the club's history.
He surpasses Taiwo Awoniyi, who joined Nottingham Forest for a club record fee of €20.50 million this summer.
