Nigeria's Super Falcons book quarterfinal spot with win over Burundi

The Super Falcons will face the Indomitable Lioness of Cameroon in the 2022 WAFCON quarterfinals after the Super Falcons' rout of Burundi on Sunday night.

Rasheedat Ajibade, Peace Efih, and Uchenna Kanu (2) scored Nigeria's goals as they overcame Burundi by four goals to nill.

The breakthrough didn't come until the 25th minute of the game after Ajibade scored from the spot.

Ajibade outran a Burundian defender and was knocked to the ground by the advancing goalkeeper, earning a penalty.

Nigeria rout was finished in four minutes thanks to goals from Efih and Kanu, who both capitalized on a sloppy Burundi defense.

Early in the second half, Kanu grabbed her second goal thanks to a skillful and well-weighted Ajibade pass, giving Nigeria their seventh match-to-date goal.

The Super Falcons' 2-1 loss to South Africa in their opening match cost them the group's top spot as Banyana Banyana defeated Botswana 1-0 in the group's final match.

The semifinals are Waldrum's next goal in order to guarantee Nigeria's World Cup ticket.
