Super Falcons drop behind Serbia in latest FIFA ranking

  • The Fédération Internationale de Football Association, FIFA, unveiled the global rankings of women's national teams on their official website on Friday.
  • Despite recording impressive results in the period under review, the Nigerian women's national team suffered a dip on the ranking table.

In late February, Nigeria edged past Cameroon into the final round of the 2024 Olympics qualifiers after drawing goalless with Cameroon away from home before defeating the Indomitable Lionesses in Abuja in the return leg.

Still, the Super Falcons dropped two spots to number 36 in the March rankings after climbing to a high of 34th last month.

The former African champions now find themselves behind New Zealand, Mexico, and Serbia on the table.

Despite the slip down the ladder, Nigeria retain their status as the number-one national team in Africa, ahead of continental champions, South Africa.

The two giants will meet next month in two-legged qualifiers to determine who makes it to the Paris Olympics later this year.

Morocco, Ghana, and Zambia join the Super Falcons and the Bayana Bayana on the continent's top five list.

Completing the ten best nations in Africa are Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Tunisia, Mali, and Equatorial Guinea.

Globally, world champions Spain have tightened their grip on first place, followed by England, France, United States and Germany.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Women's world ranking will be published on 14 June 2024.
