The Super Falcons will begin their AWCON title defense with a match against South Africa in Group C.

Nigeria won their 11th African championship in 2018 after defeating South Africa.

The 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) draw has been completed, with South Africa, Burundi, and Botswana placed in Group C alongside 11-time African champions Nigeria.

CAF Director of Competitions Samson Adamu, Cameroon and Inter Milan striker Ajara Nchout, as well as Morocco's former minister of sports Nawal El Moutawakel, performed the drawings at the Mohamed VI Complex in Rabat, Morocco.

CAF gave seeded teams Morocco, Cameroon, and the Super Falcons automatic positions in Groups A, B, and C, respectively, ahead of the draw on Friday.

The top two teams from each group will go to the quarter-finals automatically, while the third-place team will compete for a spot in the last eight as one of the two best losers.

The Super Falcons qualified for the AWCON in February after defeating Cote d'Ivoire 3-0 on aggregate. They will now focus on the competition in Morocco.

Nigeria is the defending champions and have won the title three times in a row, having won the event in 2014, 2016, and 2018, and has won the AWCON an unprecedented 11 times.

In Morocco, up to 15 players from Nigeria's AWCON roster might make their tournament debut.

The 2022 showcase will be the first time that 12 teams compete in the women's continental event, up from 8 in previous tournaments.

The tournament, which will take place in Morocco from July 2 to 23, 2022, will also serve as an African qualifier for the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2023.

The top four teams at the AWCON will automatically qualify for the World Cup with two more teams, proceeding to the inter-confederation play-offs to seek a place in the Australia-New Zealand-hosted tournament.
