Nigeria Pitch Awards 2022: Wilfred Ndidi, Victor Osimhen, Paul Onuachu, Oshoala and other Nigerian stars get nominations

The 8th edition of the Nigeria Pitch Awards will take place on Sunday March 27th in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The organizing committee made the announcement on Saturday.

It is scheduled to take place following the second leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying play-off match between Nigeria's Super Eagles and the Black Stars of Ghana.

Mr Shina Philips, President of the Awards, said in a statement that in addition to the announcement of winners for all award tiers, First Lady, Dr Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, will be honoured with a Special Achievement in Sports Award for her influence on the development of women's football in Africa.

Mrs Betsy Obaseki, Edo State First Lady; IGP Usman Alkali Baba, Inspector General of Police; and Mr Amaju Pinnick, President of the Nigeria Football Federation will also be honoured at the occasion.

The announcement of winners in 17 award categories will be among the other highlights of the 8th Award Ceremony. It should be mentioned that the nominees were revealed on January 5, 2022 in Lagos by the organizers.

NOMINEES

The King of the Pitch award will be a tight race between three outstanding footballers. Victor Osimhen of Napoli FC in Italy, Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City FC in England, and Paul Onuachu of KRC Genk in Belgium are nominated for the award.

Asisat Oshoala of FC Barcelona Femenino is nominated for the Queen of the Pitch award alongside Gift Monday of FC Robo Queens and Uchenna Kanu of Tigres UANL in the Mexican Liga MX Femenil.

Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, and Nyesom Wike of Rivers State will vie for the award of "Football Friendly Governor of the Year."

Leicester City FC's Kelechi Iheanacho is nominated for the Striker of the Year Award alongside Napoli's Osimhen and Genk's Onuachu.

NFF sponsors, leading airline Air Peace, communications giant MTN, and oil and gas solutions provider AITEO Group are all nominated for the Corporate Sponsor of Football Award.

Goalkeeper of the Year, Defender of the Year, Midfielder of the Year, Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Sam Okwaraji Award, Best Grassroots Football Development Program, Football Pitch of the Year Award, and Football Journalist of the Year are among the other awards to be handed out on the night.
