"No team will be afraid to face the Super Eagles" - Tijani Babangida urges Super Eagles to step up
Super Eagles legend, Tijani Babangida has advised the Super Eagles to be more focused if they are to defeat the trio of Sao Tome, Sierra Leone, and Guinea-Bissau in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Super Eagles fell short of glory at the last edition of the AFCON, as they failed to get past the Round of 16 following a 1-0 loss to Tunisia.
Only about a month after the AFCON ouster, the three-time African champions also failed to make it to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Despite the plethora of talents in the Eagles squad, they failed to defeat a depleted Ghanaian side during World Cup Qualifying Playoffs in March.
They'll however be hoping to redeem their image by not bottling their chances of qualifying for AFCON 2023.
In an interview with Completesports, the former Ajax player remarked that if the club wants to overcome its opponents, they must show that desire and commitment.
He stated that the Super Eagles would face difficult opponents and that they must be prepared to face them.
“I must confess to you that Africa football has grown beyond those days when you can regard a team minnows. The Super Eagles must do the needful if they are to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
“No team will be afraid to face the Super Eagles regardless of the array of stars we parade in our disposal. But then, the team can restore that fear factor again if they impose their authority in games and finish up games as quickly as possible.
“The truth is that Sao Tome, Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau will not be an easy ride for the Super Eagles.”
