U20 AFCON: Nigeria to battle Uganda in QF for World Cup ticket

  • The winners of the four quarterfinal clashes will book a spot at the World Youth Championship later in the year

The Ugandan U20 national team will face Nigeria's Flying Eagles in the quarterfinals of the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The Hippos drew goalless with South Sudan on Sunday evening at the Suez Canal Stadium to finish level on points with Congo. Lots were afterwards drawn that placed Congo in second place behind the East Africans.

Uganda are unbeaten in the tournament after beating the Central African Republic on matchday one before forcing Congo to a thrilling 2-2 draw.

They will, however, have their work cut out against Nigeria, seven-time winners of the competition.

The Flying Eagles made it out of Group A as runners-up after beating Egypt and Mozambique to finish behind Senegal, the only team to defeat the Ladan Bosso boys.

Nigeria's match with Uganda will be played at the Cairo International Stadium on Thursday, 2 March 2023.

The winner of the fixture will advance to the U20 Afcon semifinals and seal a ticket to the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia later in the year.
