Victor Osimhen wins Serie A Player of the Month Award for January

  • The Nigeria international has been spectacular since the turn of the year and his brilliance has been rewarded

Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen has been named as the Italian Serie A's Player of the Month for January.

The Super Eagles striker beat compatriot and Atalanta attacker, Ademola Lookman, AS Roma's Paulo Dybala, Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez, and SS Lazio's Luis Alberto to the prestigious award.

Osimhen was always the favourite for the award after several exceptional performances in January when he netted five goals and added an assist in five league games.

After failing to shine in Napoli's first game of the year - a 1-0 loss at Inter Milan, Osimhen let loose with a goal in his side's 2-0 win at Sampdoria.

Arguably Osimhen's best performance of the period under review was recorded against Juventus when the 24-year-old scored twice and laid on an assist to help Napoli crush The Old Lady 5-1 at the Diego Maradona Stadium.

The former Lille lad hit the back of the net again against Salernitana before scoring the league's best goal of the month in the 2-1 triumph over AS Roma on January 29.

In a season that sees the Neapolitans dominate the Italian top flight almost effortlessly, Osimhen becomes the third Napoli player to win the player of the month award after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Kim Min-Jae.

The Nigerian striker will receive his award when Napoli host Cyriel Dessers and David Okereke's Cremonese on Sunday.
