Two thunderbolt strikes hand Nigeria win over Mozambique, seal passage to U20 Afcon quarterfinals

The Nigerian U-20 national team defeated their Mozambican counterparts 2-0 at the Suez Canal Stadium on Saturday to progress to the quarterfinals of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Two fantastic first-half goals from Samson Lawal and Ibrahim Mohammed powered the Flying Eagles to their second consecutive victory in Egypt.

Nigeria dominated possession but created little in the final third until Lawal took matters into his own hand in the 33rd minute by sending a thunderbolt strike into Mozambique's bottom-left corner.

Four minutes before the halftime break, Mohammed doubled the Flying Eagles' lead when he guided another wonder strike past the hapless goalkeeper.

Both teams could not break each other's defences down after the halftime interval.

With their latest win, the Ladan Bosso-tutored team has amassed six points from their three games and sealed the second spot in Group A behind leaders Senegal.

In the other Group A game, Senegal pummeled hosts, Egypt 4-0 to make it three wins in three games for the rampant West Africans.
