Gift Orban scores the fastest hat-trick in UEFA Cup Competition history

KAA Gent are through to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa Conference League after a Gift Orban masterclass powered the Belgian side to a 5-2 aggregate win over Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday evening.

  • In an astonishing individual display, Gift Emmanuel Orban netted three goals within three minutes.

Basksehir had the advantage heading into this round of 16 clash after picking up an impressive 1-1 draw in Belgium last week. The Turkish side scored first in that encounter before Orban equalised to give Gent something to fight for in the return leg.

However, any hopes Basaksehir had of capitalising on home advantage to soar to victory in Istanbul quickly vanished in three second-half minutes when Orban turned the heat up.

The 20-year-old struck his first in the 31st minute with a clever left-footed before hitting a potential goal of the week a minute later.

A few seconds later, Orban celebrated his third after another fine effort in the danger area - the youngster's eleventh goal in his last seven games.

Former Manchester United ace Adnan Januzaj grabbed a late consolation goal for the home side, but the applause was all for Orban when he was replaced in the closing stages of the encounter.

Just at the weekend, Orban grabbed four goals in Gent's 6-2 win over Zulte Waregem as he continues to build his profile as Nigeria's next big thing in Europe.
