  • Nigerian forward, Victor Osimhen vows to score goals for Galatasaray after joining the Turkish club on loan from Napoli.
  • Numerous Galatasaray fans welcomed Osimhen at Istanbul airport ahead of his highly-anticipated transfer to the 24-time Turkish Super Lig champions.

Galatasaray supporters thronged the airport in Istanbul on Tuesday morning to welcome Nigerian superstar, Victor Osimhen, who is set to join the Turkish giants on loan for the remainder of the season.

The reigning African Footballer of the Year, who was expected to leave Napoli on transfer deadline day, was greeted with euphoric scenes as he arrived in the city ahead of his imminent transfer.

The 25-year-old's move to Galatasaray comes after Napoli manager Antonio Conte informed him that he was no longer needed at the club, warning that he wouldn't get any playing time if he remained.

The Nigerian forward, who was courted by Chelsea and Al-Ahli, has opted for a loan move to the 24-time Turkish Super Lig champions, who have an injury crisis upfront with Mauro Icardi set for a spell on the sidelines.

Speaking to GSTV via Fanatik after his arrival, Osimhen expressed his excitement at joining Galatasaray, citing the club's incredible fans and atmosphere.

"I am very happy to be here. There is an incredible atmosphere. I want to get on the field as soon as possible," he said.

The Nigerian forward also revealed that he spoke to Galatasaray forward Dries Mertens, whom he played with at Napoli, before making the move.

"I played with Dries. He helped me a lot. I also spoke to him before coming here. I can't wait to be on the field with him."

Osimhen, who is set to become one of the biggest stars in Turkish football, vowed to score goals for his new club and drive the fans crazy.

"I want to drive them crazy with the goals I will score and have them shout my name," he vowed.

As soon as the move is sorted out, the striker is expected to report for international duty, as the Super Eagles will do battle against Benin Republic and Rwanda in qualifying games for the 2025 AFCON.
