Nigeria's Flying Eagles beat Tunisia to claim AFCON U20 bronze medal

  • In a dominant performance, Nigeria's Flying Eagles secured a well-deserved 4-0 victory over Tunisia's Carthage Eagles in the third-place match at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday afternoon.

From the outset, Nigeria looked to be in control of the match, with their attacking prowess causing all sorts of problems for the Tunisian defence.

The opening goal came in the ninth minute, with Ibrahim Muhammed scoring with a well-placed finish after some excellent build-up play from the Eagles.

Tunisia tried to respond, but Nigeria's rear-guard held firm, and it was only a matter of time before they extended their lead.

That moment came shortly after the half-time break, with Ahmed Abdullahi getting on the scoresheet with a smart finish to put Nigeria 2-0 up.

From then on, it was all one-way traffic, with Nigeria continuing to dominate and creating numerous chances to score.

In the 49th minute, Jude Sunday scored a fantastic solo goal to extend the advantage for the Flying Eagles. The young midfielder showed great pace and composure to outwit several Tunisian defenders before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper.

The Carthage Eagles continued to struggle to contain the Nigerian attack, and the Flying Eagles put the game beyond doubt in stoppage time when Jude Sunday scored his second of the match with a fierce drive from the edge of the box.

With this victory, Nigeria secured their fourth bronze medal at the U20 Afcon and became the team with the most bronze medals in the competition's history. It was an impressive performance by the Flying Eagles, who thoroughly deserved their victory.

The Nigerian team will now shift their focus to the FIFA U20 World Cup, which is set to take place in Indonesia later in the year.
