Lookman closes gap on Osimhen with Sampdoria stunner; Iheanacho levels with Harry Kane in the FA Cup;

  • EaglesTracker followed 71 games from 41 different leagues around the world, on an exciting Saturday of football
  • Here are the notable performances of Nigerian stars

FA Cup

Kelechi Iheanacho proved his worth yet again as he netted the only goal as Leicester City edged to a slim 1-0 win over Walsall to advance to the fifth round of the English FA Cup.

The Super Eagles striker came off the bench on the hour-mark several minutes after midfielder Youri Tielemans had missed a penalty for the Foxes.

And five minutes after his introduction, Iheanacho received a pass from Nampalys Mendy and rifled a deflected effort into the roof of the net for his 17th goal in the competition.

That tally is the most of any Nigerian in the FA Cup and the joint 13th with Harry Kane and Darren Bent on the all-time list.

Joe Aribo was in the starting lineup for Southampton to help the Saints advance to the next phase of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win over Blackpool at St. Mary's Stadium.

It is, however, the end of the road in the world's oldest cup competition for Semi Ajayi, as West Brom fell to a 3-0 defeat away to Bristol City.

Serie A

Ademola Lookman netted his 12th league of the season and his seventh strike this year to guide Atalanta to a 2-0 win over Sampdoria at the Gewiss Stadium.

Joakim Mæhle nodded home the opening goal for Atalanta just before the interval after a fine Lookman header had come off the post.

And Lookman added the second goal a few minutes into the second half, ghosting past two defenders before unleashing an unstoppable strike into the bottom corner.

The former Leicester City loanee has now scored more goals in Italy than his combined haul over the last four seasons.

Elsewhere, David Okereke scored one of the best goals of the weekend in Cremonese's 2-1 loss to Inter Milan.

Okereke received a simple pass on the edge of the box, turned smartly, and fired a cannon into the far right corner to give the hosts an early advantage.

But a Lautaro Martinez double ensured Inter left the Stadio Giovanni Zini in Cremona with all three points at stake.

Super Eagles defender, Tyronne Ebuehi made a positive impression for Empoli as they battled to a 2-2 home draw with Torino.

Ebuehi made two clearances and one successful tackle in a match that saw compatriot Ola Aina make his comeback from a lengthy injury layoff. The former Chelsea star was an 85th-minute substitute.

In Turkey, Henry Onyekuru and Babajide David were on the winning team as Adana Demirspor carved out a fine 2-1 win away to Ahmed Musa's Sivasspor.

Babajide scored his first goal of 2023 and his fourth of the campaign in the 56th minute to double the visitors' advantage after Emre Akbaba had handed them a first-half lead.

Isaac Cofie halved the deficit shortly after but Adana Demirspor held on for their tenth league win of the season. Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa was a 90th-minute substitute for Sivasspor.
