Major League Soccer side New England Revolution is on the verge of securing the services of Super Eagles midfielder, Alhassan Yusuf. According to transfer market reporter Sacha Tavolieri, the United States-based club has reached an agreement with Royal Antwerp to sign the 24-year-old Nigerian international for a reported €3m fee.
The former IFK Göteborg lynchpin who has been a key player for Royal Antwerp since joining the Jupiler Pro League side in 2021, is set to ink a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Revolution. The midfielder's addition comes as a much-needed boost for the struggling MLS outfit, which currently sits at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with 23 points from 23 games.
Despite featuring in 42 games across all competitions last season, Yusuf struggled to secure a regular spot in Royal Antwerp's starting lineup, managing just one goal. However, his energetic and dynamic playing style is expected to bring a new level of excitement to the Revolution's midfield.
Royal Antwerp's financial woes have prompted the sale, with the club already parting ways with Yusuf's compatriot George Ilenikhena, who joined AS Monaco. The Belgian side is eager to offload players to ease their financial burden, making Yusuf's departure a mutually beneficial move for both parties.
The Revolution, desperate to climb out of the Eastern Conference cellar, is banking on Yusuf's arrival to inject new life into their squad. With two games in hand, the team is hopeful that the Nigerian midfielder's addition will spark a turnaround in their fortunes.
