  • Nigeria's football scene is buzzing with excitement as the EaglesTracker Awards reveal the highly anticipated Nigerian Team of the Season 2022/2023.

Eleven outstanding footballers have secured their spots on this prestigious roster, showcasing the nation's top talent.

Guarding the goalposts is none other than Adebayo Adeleye from Hapoel Jerusalem, recognized for his remarkable performances in Israel.

Adeleye's consistent displays earned him the privilege of making his Super Eagles debut during Nigeria's recent 3-2 victory over Sierra Leone in June.

Forming an impenetrable four-man defence, we have Tyronne Ebuehi from Empoli at right-back, accompanied by Hoffenheim centre-back, Kevin Akpoguma, Slavia Prague's Igoh Ogbu, and Almere City's Hamdi Akujobi at left-back. Ebuehi, already honoured as the Nigerian Defender of the Season, solidifies his reputation as a defensive stalwart.

The midfield boasts three exceptional players. Everton's Alex Iwobi and Club Brugge's Raphael Onyedika flank attacking midfielder Chuba Akpom, who delivered a stellar campaign with Middlesbrough.

Iwobi, previously crowned the Nigerian Midfielder of the Season, proves his mettle in the middle of the park.

A fierce competition unfolded for the coveted attacking positions, but Taiwo Awoniyi, Victor Boniface, and Victor Osimhen emerged victorious.
Awoniyi made an instant impact in the Premier League, netting ten goals to help Nottingham Forest avoid relegation.

Union Saint Gilloise's Boniface electrified the Europa League with six goals, earning the top goalscorer accolade.

Meanwhile, Osimhen, the prized asset of Napoli, found the back of the net 26 times to propel his team to their first Scudetto triumph in 33 years. Earlier, Osimhen was also honoured as the Nigerian Forward of the Season at the EaglesTracker Awards 2023.
