The Super Eagles of Nigeria have maintained their position in the latest FIFA Men's World Rankings.

Despite securing four points from their opening two matches of the AFCON 2025 Qualifiers, Nigeria's ranking remains unchanged, occupying the 39th spot globally and dropping to sixth in Africa.

The team's commanding [3-0] victory over Benin at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium and subsequent goalless draw against Rwanda in Kigali were expected to propel them up the rankings.

However, the Super Eagles experienced a marginal decline of 0.91 points, slipping from 1498.93 to 1498.02 points.

Nigeria's stagnation in the rankings can be attributed to the team's inconsistent performance in recent games. Despite showing promise in the AFCON qualifiers, the Super Eagles still have a long way to go to reclaim their spot among the continent's elite.

Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Côte d'Ivoire, and Tunisia continue to lead the pack in Africa, with Algeria, Cameroon, Mali, and the Democratic Republic of Congo rounding out the top ten.

On the global stage, Argentina, France, Spain, England, Brazil, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, Colombia, and Italy occupy the coveted top ten spots.

Looking ahead, Nigeria has a crucial opportunity to improve its standing in the next FIFA rankings, set to be released on October 24, 2024.

To enhance their position, the Super Eagles must secure positive results in their upcoming double-header against Libya in October.
