Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will not be available for selection when the Super Eagles face off with Algeria in the international friendly slated for September 27.

Ndidi suffered a yet-to-be-disclosed injury in training on Wednesday, which has ruled him out of the clash with the Desert Foxes.

Before his unfortunate injury, Ndidi was looking to make his first appearance for Nigeria under head coach Jose Peseiro.

Ndidi was recovering from a knee injury that kept him out of action for four months and the latter part of last season when the Nigeria Football Federation appointed Peseiro as the national team handler.

The 25-year-old missed the two friendly defeats to Mexico and Ecuador in May/June.

Ndidi was also unavailable when the Super Eagles beat Sierra Leone 2-1 in Abuja and went away to trounce Sao Tome and Principe 10-0, Nigeria's biggest win in history.

In Ndidi's absence, head coach Jose Peseiro can call on Club Brugge's Raphael Onyedika and Brentford's Frank Onyeka to fill in as the team's defensive midfielder against Algeria.

Onyeka has made seven appearances for the Super Eagles since making his debut for the three-time Africa Cup of Nations winner two years ago.

Onyedika, who swapped FC Midtjylland for Brugge this summer, is targeting his first cap for the national team.

Nigeria have not beaten Algeria's Desert Foxes since a 3-1 thrashing in a FIFA World Cup qualifier in November 2016.
