  • The 22-year-old, who has played for France at U18, U21, and U23 levels, is in line to play a cap-tying game for Les Bleus against Italy in the UEFA Nations League.

Bayern Munich's talented winger Michael Olise has revealed why he chose to represent France at the international level.

Born to a Franco-Algerian mother and Nigerian father in London, Olise's multicultural heritage made him eligible to play for four different countries. However, his heart belongs to Les Bleus.

The Chelsea youth alumni's connection to France stems from his childhood, where he spent time in the country and developed a strong bond with the nation. His mother's French roots played a significant role in his decision, as he proudly declared,

"My mother is from France. When I was little, I came here. I had this connection with France. I'm proud to be here." The winger told RMC Sport.

The 22-year-old's admiration for French football legends Zinedine Zidane and Thierry Henry also influenced his choice. Growing up, Olise idolized the 1998 World Cup winners and closely followed Les Bleus' performances.

"Zidane, Henry... There are a lot of quality players in this selection but I like these two players." He added.

His dreams of emulating his heroes have now become a reality, as he prepares to potentially play a cap-tying game for France against Italy on September 6.

The Reading academy graduate's rise to prominence began at Crystal Palace, where he showcased his skills as a young sensation.

His impressive performances earned him a move to Bayern Munich and, subsequently, his first call-up to France's senior national team.

Despite the Nigeria Football Federation's efforts to convince him to play for the Super Eagles, Olise's heart remains with Les Bleus.
