FULL LIST: Dates For Nigeria’s AWCON 2022 Group Games

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have been placed in the same group as South Africa, Botswana, and Burundi for the 2022 Africa Women's Cup of Nations (AWCON), which will be held in Morocco from July 2 to 23.

They will begin their campaign against the Bayana Bayana of South Africa before playing against Botswana and Burundi respectively.

The South African Women's team has developed significantly in recent years, and their triumph over the Falcons at the Aisha Buhari Cup in Lagos is still vivid in many people's memories.

In terms of the AWCON competition, the Nigerian women's team is the most successful, having won all but two of the prior editions.

In 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2018, they were crowned Women AFCON champions.

The covid19 epidemic affected the 2020 competition.

Equatorial Guinea won the championship in 2008 and 2012, but has lacked consistency in recent years, failing to qualify for the finals in Morocco this year.

Aside from defending their championship, the Super Falcons must set a modest goal of reaching the semi-finals in Morocco.

This is due to the fact that all four Moroccan semi-finalists will represent Africa in the 32-team FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next year.
