  • Gambia will trade tackles with Nigeria in the semifinals of the ongoing 2023 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The high-flying West Africans booked a date with the Flying Eagles after beating South Sudan 5-0 in the competition's third quarterfinal fixture, recording the highest scoreline in the tournament so far. The Young Scorpions sealed the emphatic win with a hattrick from Adama Bojang and other strikes from Moses Jarju, and Mahmudu Bajo on Friday.

The Gambians, alongside Senegal, are the only team yet to concede a goal in the tournament and are the highest-scoring team, with nine goals in four games.

However, the Flying Eagles are no pushovers, and they will aim to claim the win and advance to the final when both teams meet in Cairo on Monday.

After emerging as runners-up from Group A, the Flying Eagles defeated Uganda 1-0 in the second quarterfinal match of the 2023 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (U-20 AFCON) to secure a place in the tournament's semifinals.

Ugandan youngster Ibrahim Juma scored an own goal in the first half, sealing the victory for Ladan Bosso's boys that secured a place in the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Senegal will do battle with Tunisia - who beat Congo on penalties in the last quarterfinal fixture - in the second semifinal match of the tournament.
