Nigeria's Falconets started their campaign at the FIFA Women's World Cup in Costa Rica by defeating France 1-0 in their Group D opener.

Flourish Sabastine scored the game's lone goal late in the second half to give Nigeria the three points.

The Falconets' following match is their second Group D match against South Korea on Sunday.

Both sides threatened each other with attacking moves from the blast of the whistle, with the goalkeepers making crucial saves.

The first half ended without any of the side breaking the deadlock.

France had the ball in the back of the net in the 81st minute, but VAR intervened. The goal was disallowed for a foul on the Falconets goalkeeper.

The Falconets seized the lead in the 85th minute thanks to Flourish Sabastine, who capitalized on a through ball from Idoko before putting the ball past the French goalkeeper.
