- The Super Falcons are through to the third round of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualfieirs after beating Ethiopia [4-0] at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday.
- Nigeria advanced past the East Africans [5-1] on aggregate after the first leg ended in a [1-1] draw in Addis Ababa last week.
A brace from Rasheedat Ajibade and further strikes from Uchenna Kanu and Oshoala Ajibade were all the Falcons needed to doar past the Lucy in the return fixture.
The final scoreline suggests that Nigeria were the dominant force from start to finish in Abuja, but the Super Falcons did not display their best form in the opening half of the encounter.
With Oshoala missing a one-on-one earlier in the game, Ethiopia had little trouble keeping Nigeria's attack under check until the moments before the break when Kanu slotted home the opener after a fantastic pass by Tosin Demehin.
The 9-time WAFCON champions were, however, ruthless after the break as captain Ajibade connected with Oshoala's final pass to double the advantage.
Oshoala finally got in on the action as she headed home a fine cross from Kanu before Ajibade completed her brace after pouncing on another Oshoala assist.
Nigeria will face Cameroon in the third round of the qualifiers after the indomitable Lionesses overcame a [2-0] first leg deficit to win their tie [3-2] against Uganda.
