November friendlies: Super Eagles to face Costa Rica before Portugal

  • The Nigerian national team lost their last friendly match to Algeria, but a date with a CONCACAF campaigner has been added to their program before the end of the year.

The Super Eagles will play Costa Rica in an international friendly game slated for November 10, 2022 in San Jose, Costa Rica.

An interesting tie awaits between the African giants and the most successful national football team from the region of Central America.

Nigeria, 3-time AFCON winners, will look to test their might against the Tricolor, who are three-time champions of the CONCACAF Championship.

Interestingly, Costa Rica are ranked 31st in the latest FIFA World rankings, displacing Nigeria to 32nd spot.

The scheduled match in San Jose will be the first-ever encounter between Nigeria and Costa Rica.

The game against Costa Rica will be Nigeria's first friendly match during the next international break, with the Super Eagles also set to meet Portugal on November 17.

The Super Eagles have not fared well in friendlies under Portuguese manager Jose Peseiro.

The 2013 continental champions have lost all three friendly matches played with the former Sporting Lisbon boss in charge. Nigeria lost to Ecuador and Mexico earlier in the year and only last month fell to a 2-1 defeat to Algeria in Oran.
