Record-making Osimhen, Onuachu return for Super Eagles ahead of Portugal clash

  • The three-time African champions are scheduled to face the World Cup-bound Portuguese national team in Lisbon next week

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has included strikers Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu in the 24-man squad invited to face Portugal on Thursday.

Nigeria will lock horns with Portugal in Lisbon on November 17 as the former European champions prepare for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Victor Osimhen returns to the national team after missing Nigeria's friendly against Algeria in October due to injury. The Napoli man recently became Nigeria's all-time top goalscorer in the Italian Serie A with 32 goals.

KRC Genk forward, Onuachu also earned his first invitation since Peseiro took charge of the national team in May.

In the forced absence of Torino fullback, Ola Aina, Peseiro has turned to Empoli right-back, Tyronne Ebuehi and Fenerbahce's Bright Osayi Samuel. Samuel, as well as Boavista defender, Bruno Onyemaechi, will be looking to make their international debut for Nigeria in the encounter.

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, however, misses the party as he continues to recuperate from arm surgery.

Rivers United's defender, Chidiebube Duru is the only player from the Nigeria Professional Football League who makes the list.
