- Nigeria's Men's national football team, the Super Eagles, have made a positive leap in the most recent FIFA ranking unveiled by the world football governing body.
Released on June 29, 2023, the rankings show the Super Eagles climbing from their previous position of 40th to now occupy the 39th spot.
The upward trajectory in Nigeria's ranking can be attributed to their recent victory against Sierra Leone during the last international window.
The Super Eagles emerged triumphant in a thrilling encounter, defeating Sierra Leone 3-2. This victory secured their qualification for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, set to be held in Ivory Coast next year.
Having earned 5.68 points, Nigeria's national team moved up one place since the April rankings.
However, Morocco continue to reign as Africa's top-ranked team, followed closely by the reigning AFCON champions, Senegal. Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt round out the continent's top five footballing nations.
At the global level, Argentina remains at the summit of the FIFA rankings, basking in their status as the reigning world champions. The remaining spots in the top five are occupied by France, Brazil, England, and Belgium.
