Top Five: Iwobi, Moffi and Nigeria's best players at the weekend (September 16-18)
Kekọrịta
There were quite a few impressive performances from Nigerian footballers across Europe and beyond at the weekend.
But who are the best five whose efforts significantly impacted their clubs' results?
5. William Agada, Sporting Kansas City
In the American Major League Soccer (MLS), Nigerian attacker William Agada stole the show as his brace inspired Sporting Kansas City to a convincing 4-1 triumph over Minnesota United.
The 23-year-old has been on fire for Sporting KC since joining the side from Israel's Hapoel Jerusalem in June, netting five goals in nine matches before Sunday.
William Agada grabbed his sixth goal on the stroke of half-time to make it three-nil for the home side in front of their fans inside the Children's Mercy Park in Kansas.
After Garcia had reduced the deficit for Minnesota United shortly after the interval, Agada was on hand to make it 4-1 in the 81st minute.
The exciting forward is now tied as Sporting KC's second-top league scorer.
4. Terem Moffi, Lorient
All the harsh criticism of the past year, it seems, is fuelling Terem Moffi's desire and delivery.
The Super Eagles striker managed eight Ligue 1 goals last term, a sharp drop from the 14 he bagged in his debut campaign in France.
But on Friday, Moffi scored the second of Lorient's goals as the visitors defeated home side Auxerre 1-3 at the Stade de l'Abbé Deschamps.
Moffi's first-half strike, his sixth in eight matches this term, guided FCL to their third away victory, lifting the club to third on the French Ligue 1 table.
3. Victor Boniface, Union Saint-Gilloise
Boniface, Nigeria's newest scoring sensation in Belgium, was at it again as he netted the winner for Union Saint-Gilloise in their 2-1 win at Eupen on Sunday.
The 21-year-old youngster is fast becoming a fans favourite at Union SG, and his recent match-winning display will boost his reputation even more.
With the encounter seemingly heading for a 1-1 draw, Boniface showed up to bundle home the winning goal in stoppage time to earn all these points for Union SG.
2. Anthony Ujah, Eintracht Braunschweig
Eintracht Braunschweig had Nigerian forward Anthony Ujah to thank for the club's second league victory.
Ujah netted both goals for Braunschweig in their narrow 2-1 victory at home to Karlsruhe on Friday.
After firing blanks in his first four games for the club he joined only in the summer, the former Union Berlin forward is enjoying an excellent September.
Ujah has blasted four goals past opposing goalkeepers in his last three games this month.
More significantly, Eintracht Braunschweig has not lost a game that Ujah has scored in. It takes a Super Eagle to lead a pack of Lions.
1. Alex Iwobi, Everton
Finally, Everton have their first victory of the 2022-2023 season, and it is no little thanks to that man - Alex Iwobi.
Iwobi's performances in the centre of the park for Frank Lampard's men have drawn praises from different quarters over the past few weeks.
But the Nigeria international took it a notch higher against West Ham. The former Arsenal winger still offered his dynamism and work ethic, and on Sunday, he added the assist to Everton's winning goal.
Iwobi has assisted three of the Toffee's last four goals in all competitions. No wonder Lampard is not thinking of caging this excellent Eagle.
Honourable mentions
Taiwo Awoniyi got his second goal for Nottingham Forest, but it came to nought as Fulham left the City Ground with all three points following a 3-2 victory.
Wale Alli scored one and assisted the other for Zbrojovka Brno in their 2-2 draw with Teplice in the Czech Republic's top flight.
