- Boavista's fans have voted Bruno Sopuruchukwu Onyemaechi as the club's Player of the Month for March.
Despite a tough month for Boavista, in which they won only one of three games, Onyemaechi was a standout player. He performed well in the club's 0-0 draw with Arouca, making several tackles, interceptions, and ground duels. He also made important contributions on the offensive end with accurate crosses and key passes.
However, Onyemaechi struggled with the rest of the team in Boavista's 3-0 defeat to Sporting Lisbon. Nonetheless, the young defender bounced back and played a strong game in the team's 1-2 home loss to Famalicao.
Onyemaechi's good form was shortly rewarded as he was called up for Nigeria's back-to-back games against Guinea-Bissau in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Although he didn't get a chance to play in either match, the call-up was a great accomplishment for the 23-year-old defender.
As of yet, Onyemaechi has not made his debut for the Super Eagles, despite receiving his first international call-up in the lead-up to the friendly against Portugal in November.
Looking ahead, Onyemaechi will aim to continue his impressive club form as Boavista travel to face Maritimo in their upcoming match.
