Newcastle United's 17-year-old sensation Trevan Sanusi has caught the eye of manager Eddie Howe with his impressive performances on the club's Japan tour. Sanusi, who joined the Magpies from Birmingham City last year, has been hailed as a "bag of tricks" by Howe, who is excited about the youngster's potential.
The Nigeria-eligible winger made a significant impression on Howe when he came off the bench in the 79th minute of Newcastle's 4-1 win over Urawa Red Diamonds in Saitama. Sanusi's pace and skill on the ball left the J League opposition struggling to keep up as Newcastle pushed for a fifth goal.
According to the Daily Mail Howe praised Sanusi's talent, saying, "He's definitely got a talent. He's very clever with the ball, and he's got lots of tricks in his bag that he can pull out from time to time." 'I'm excited by him. I think he's got the basics of a really good framework to build from. It's going to be up to us and for him to develop those skills and talents.'
The Newcastle boss is eager to see Sanusi develop his skills and talents further, acknowledging that the physicality of Premier League football will be a challenge for the youngster. "Certainly, the Premier League's a totally different beast physically, and I think that's something he's going to have to continue to work on," said Howe. 'For someone so young, I think he's made a good impression.' He concluded.
The English-born Nigerian, who turned professional this summer, has already gained international recognition, representing England at the Under-17 level. However, he missed out on a place in the England Under-17 squad for the European Championship finals in Cyprus due to an injury.
