Through a statement on their official website, Chelsea Football Club has announced a 28-man squad for their upcoming pre-season tour of the United States, with five Nigeria-eligible players set to feature prominently. The Blues will participate in five matches against a mix of domestic and international opposition as new manager Enzo Maresca looks to imprint his philosophy on the team.
Central defender, Tosin Adarabioyo, a product of Manchester City’s renowned academy, has joined the Blues from Fulham as a free agent, and will be hoping to impress in his new surroundings. Madueke on the other hand, has shown glimpses of his immense talent since arriving from PSV Eindhoven.
Lesley Ugochukwu, returns to Cobham after being axed from France's eighteen-man Olympic squad while Carney Chukwuemeka, a dynamic and creative player who has progressed through Chelsea’s academy joins Ugochukwu on the full fitness train after last season was plagued by injuries.
The final Nigeria-eligible player included in the squad is the promising Tyrique George. A product of Chelsea’s academy, the winger has caught the eye with his pace, dribbling, and goal-scoring ability. While still relatively young, George has the potential to develop into a top-class player and could be a future star for both club and country.
Chelsea's pre-season tour will see them face Wrexham, Celtic, Club America, Manchester City, and Real Madrid, with the hope of building momentum ahead of the new campaign.
