  • Super Eagles hopeful, Chuba Akpom has been named the EFL Player of the Season for the 2022/202323 season.

Middlesbrough's Chuba Akpom claimes the award after a remarkable campaign that has seen him lead his team's promotion charge with his impressive goalscoring exploits.

The prestigious award was presented to Akpom during the EFL Awards 2023, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Sunday April 23. The ceremony was attended by several prominent figures from the football world, including players, managers, and club officials.

Akpom has scored an impressive 28 goals and provided 2 assists in the EFL Championship this season, making him the top scorer in the division.

Upon receiving the award, Akpom expressed his delight and gratitude. "I am super grateful," Akpom said. "It has been years of hard work to get to this stage, so I am over the moon. It’s been an amazing season, but I’ve had a lot of downs, getting injured earlier in the season. The new manager came in at the perfect time, and he probably brought out the best in me, put me in the number 10, and I’ve been enjoying it ever since."

Akpom will look to finish the season on a high by helping Middlesbrough gain promotion to the Premier League.

Boro currently sit in fourth place in the Championship, with their promotion playoff spot already secured.
