Super Falcons accept invitation to play in the Women's Revelations Cup in Mexico

  • The Nigeria Football Federation has announced that the Super Falcons have accepted an invitation to feature at the inaugural edition of the Revelation Cup to be hosted by Mexico.

The 9-time African champions will slug it out with the hosts, Mexico; CONCACAF representatives, Costa Rica and South American giants, Colombia in the four-nation friendly tournament. The seven-day tournament is scheduled to kick off on February 15 and run through to the 21st, in the State of Guanajuato.

Nigeria's first match at the Revelations Cup will be against hosts, Mexico on Wednesday, February 15th before the Super Falcons square off against Colombia three days later. On February 21, Randy Waldrum's side will play their 3rd match versus Costa Rica.

It is not surprising that the Super Falcons have accepted to participate in the tournament, as the former African champions continue their preparations ahead of the 9th FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Australia and New Zealand later in July.

Meanwhile, Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has invited 23 players for the friendly tournament. The American tactician has called up Nigeria's Spain-based contingent including Barcelona's Asisat Oshoala, Deportivo Alaves' Osinachi Ohale, Atletico Madrid's Rasheedat Ajibade, and Sevilla's Toni Payne.

Several other players have been drawn from France, Mexico, the United States, England, Portugal, and Russia. Rivers Angels defender Akudo Ogbonna is the only home-based player on the roster.
