On Friday, the Canadian women's soccer team celebrated their Olympic success by defeating Nigeria 2-0 in a friendly match.

The home side had majority of the possesion across the first half but Labbé was called into action in the 28th minute.

Rasheedat Ajibade broke through the Canadian backline and launched a rocket to the top of the box, but Labbé was able to make a fingertip save to keep the score at 0-0.

In the 51st minute, Deanne Rose set up the game's opening goal, passing the ball to Flemming at the top of the six-yard box. Flemming struck the ball to a sharp-angle shot that soared above the shoulder of Chiamaka Nnadozie.

After appearing to sustain an injury, Oluehi came on to replace Nnadozie in the 70th minute.

Canada extended their lead in the 72nd minute.

Jordyn Huitema headed the ball to Gilles, who in return headed it in past Tochukwu Oluehi.

In the 68th minute, Sheridan made her biggest save of the night, diving to deflect a shot from Oyedupe Payne just wide of the post.

Friday was the first time the Canadian and Nigerian women's teams have met since a friendly in Spain in April 2019, when Canada won 2-1.

Nigeria is ranked 39th in the world, while Canada is ranked sixth.

The two teams will face again in Langford, B.C., on Monday for the second game in the B.C. leg of the celebratory tour.
