Super Falcons to know AWCON 2022 foes on April 25th
The group stage draws for the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco, will take place on Monday, April 25th 2022.
Goals from Ifeoma Onumonu and Esther Okoronkwo steered the Super Falcons to a 3-0 aggregate win over Cote d’Ivoire in the final round of the qualifiers in February 2022.
Nigeria won the Africa Women Cup of Nations (formerly known as the African Women Championship) for the first time in 1998, and has since won seven more championships.
The only two instances in the competition's history that the Super Falcons did not win were when the tournaments were held in Equatorial Guinea, in 2008 and 2012.
Morocco, Nigeria, Uganda, Burundi, Zambia, Togo, Senegal, Tunisia, Botswana, Cameroon, South Africa, and Burkina Faso are the 12 teams who have qualified. They will be drawn it into four groups, with three teams each.
The four semi-finalists will represent Africa at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup finals. It is to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand and is scheduled to take place from 20 July to 20 August 2023.
